Jerome 'Jerry' McNamara, retired entrepreneur

Jerome "Jerry" Joseph McNamara, 81, of Lewes, passed away Saturday, April 26, 2014, at his home. He was born Oct. 17, 1932, in Philadelphia, Pa., son of the late Frank and Margaret (Higgins) McNamara.

Mr. McNamara was originally from Philadelphia where he graduated from St. Joseph's University in 1954. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged as a first lieutenant. Mr. McNamara was an entrepreneur at heart and he and Barbara successfully opened their own business called BSM Food Specialties. He resided for many years in Vineland, N.J., and finally retired to Lewes in 2004.

In addition to his parents, Mr. McNamara was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara (Sullivan) McNamara in 2011. He is survived by his three sons: Frank McNamara of Connecticut, Jerome McNamara Jr. of Florida and Michael McNamara of Tennessee; and his daughter, Mary Pat Tortora of Connecticut.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, May 20, at 11 a.m.,at Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church, 30839 Mount Joy Road, Millsboro, where friends may call beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. McNamara's memory to Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church.

Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
