The following letter was sent to Dewey Beach City Manager Marc Applebaum with a copy submitted to the Cape Gazette for publication.
As an owner of a house on Chesapeake Street and frequent beachgoer, I strongly oppose your proposal to establish the Chesapeake Street beach as a skimboarding area with visiting skimboarders having priority over taxpaying residents on use of the beach. This will also further aggravate our existing problem of unauthorized outsiders parking on our private properties.
There must be many beach areas where there are no residents south of Dewey Beach and ample parking is available. Please do not single out Chesapeake Street for this exclusive right for skimboarders who are, for the most part, are not even Dewey Beach residents. I respectively urge you to not impose this burden on us the tax paying citizens of the community!
