May 12, 2014

Don Ayotte, an Independent candidate from Georgetown, officially filed for the 20th Representative District seat in Delaware's General Assembly May 7. Here he is filing the paper work at the Sussex County Department of Elections in Georgetown.

The Independent Party of Delaware nominated Ayotte at its Sussex County Convention May 2 with a unanimous vote of the executive committee.

Ayotte has never been publicly elected, but in 2012, as a registered Republican, he lost to incumbent Democrat Joan Deaver in Sussex County District 3 race.

Marie Mayor, a Democrat from Milton, filed for the District 20 seat Jan. 21. Incumbent Steve Smyk, a Republican from Milton, has yet to file for re-election. The filing deadline for all candidates is July 8 at noon.
