May 13, 2014

The Centre Ice Rink in Harrington will be the setting for adventure as the Bay Country Figure Skating Club presents its 5th annual spring show, “The Legend of the Lion King,” at 6 p.m., Friday, May 16, and 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Saturday, May 17.

The show will feature about 70 local skaters of all ages and a host of familiar characters skating to the unforgettable soundtrack from “The Lion King,” as well as other familiar songs.

The show will also include special performances by Delaware’s only Theatre on Ice troupe, Harrington’s own 1st State Ice Theatre. This year, the group has two teams: an 11-member adult team and a 16-member open team. The teams began training last September to compete at Theatre on Ice Nationals in Michigan in June. “Lion King” audiences will see the public debut of their long programs - the adult team’s “60s Sitcoms” and the open team’s “Rio.”

“The Legend of the Lion King” is directed by The Centre’s skating director, Jerry Santoferrara, a figure skating professional with more than 20 years' experience coaching at the University of Delaware Sports Science and Development Center in Newark.

The Saturday morning show has a special discounted rate of $4 off at the door for ages 55 and older. Advance tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for children ages 5 to 16, and door prices are $12 for adults and $10 for children. Admission is free for children age 4 and under. Groups are welcome; advance notice is requested for groups larger than 10. Tickets are available for purchase online at www.baycountryfsc.org, or through club and cast members.

To purchase tickets or for more information, call 302-398-5900, Ext. 218, or go to www.baycountryfsc.org. Tickets also are on sale at the rink during Learn to Skate classes and club skating times Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
