Myers elected to Cape school board

Newcomer Alison Myers won the at-large seat for the Cape Henlopen school board May 13 garnering 659 votes.

Her closest challenger was Juan Saez with 391, followed by Terri Carey with 373, Meyer Persow with 161 and Bob Bennett with 154.

Myers said she was prepared and knowlegeable about school district issues going into the election, and she believes voters supported her for those reasons.

"I'm going to keep doing what I've been doing," she said. For the stay-at-home mother of four, that means keeping up with family duties while staying involved in the district. She is on Shields Elementary PTO and had served on the task force created to address improvements at the district's elementary schools, which eventually led to the passage of a referendum for a new elementary school.

Incumbent Andy Lewis was uncontested and will retain his 5-year Area C seat for another term.

Voting at the three polling places was as follows:

Cape High - Saez, 161; Myers, 413; Persow, 161; Bennett, 94; Carey, 123.

Mariner Middle - Saez, 177; Myers, 73; Persow, 22; Bennett, 37; Carey, 215.

Rehoboth Elementary - Saez, 49; Myers, 158; Persow, 42; Bennett, 23; Carey, 21.

Myers fills the 5-year seat held by Sara Wilkinson, who chose not to run for re-election.

Myers will take her seat in July, but for now, she said, she is going to enjoy her win.

"I'm going to relax and take a day off," she said.
