Cape softball finishes off Smyrna on Senior Day

May 16, 2014

University of South Carolina-bound Tiara Duffy led a barrage of hitting, going 3-for-4 from the plate and scoring three runs as the Vikings downed the Eagles 8-3 May 13.

Duffy, Sydney Ostroski, and Jordan Virden each went yard for the Lady Vikings. Alexis Burger and freshman Elissa Leach added two hits for Cape.

Hailey Passwaters came on in relief on the mound in the sixth inning with one out and bases loaded holding onto a 5-3 lead and retired the next two batters to save the game.

In the game with Sussex Central May 14, Cape was trailing 7-5 in the sixth inning, and Sussex Central intentionally walked Tiara Dully to face Marlee McGinness, who promptly delivered a huge 2-run single to tie the game. Cape defeated the Golden Knights 8-7.

Sydney Ostroski followed with the game-winning single after a great at bat. She finished 3-for-4 on the day with 3 RBIs.

Alexis Burger and Jalyn Maull added two key hits each. Passwaters got the win after pitching the last 2 and 2/3 scoreless innings.

The Vikings are 7-8 on the season with a home game remaining against Saint Mark's.

The Vikings are a bubble team  on the verge of making the state tournament.
