Preston W. Elliott, respected home builder

Preston W. Elliott, 86, of Georgetown, passed away on Monday, May 12, 2014, at the Delaware Veterans Home in Milford.

He was born July 8, 1927, on the family farm outside of Georgetown. Mr. Elliott was a well-respected homebuilder in the Georgetown area for many years. He was a self-employed contractor noted for his work ethic. He retired in 1989, but still practiced his trade occasionally, as when he helped both his sons build their houses. Mr. Elliott was a man of few, but meaningful words. He enjoyed gardening in his retirement and kept the neighborhood in vegetables.

In addition to his parents, John Wingate Elliott and Alberta Truitt, and his brother, John Albert Elliott, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Eleanor Elliott, who passed away in 2002.

He is survived by three children: Christine Sergovic and her husband John of Rehoboth, John Elliott and his wife Dawn of Georgetown, and David Elliott and his wife Leslie of Georgetown; as well as two sisters: Gladys Graves of Georgetown and Jean Wilkins and her husband Cap of Georgetown. He is also survived by grandson Robert W. Tunnell III and his wife Mindi of Lewes; granddaughter Sarah Tunnell of Brooklyn, N.Y.; granddaughter Meghan Elliott of Georgetown; granddaughter Jessica Hammond and her husband Kyle of Selbyville; and great-grandchildren Jack Tunnell and Grace Tunnell.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 17, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown where friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Burial will immediately follow at Union Cemetery in Georgetown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Delaware Veterans Home, 100 Veterans Blvd., Milford, DE 19963.
