Millsboro man charged with DUI after crashing into gas station

A 22-year-old Millsboro man faces driving under the influence charges after police say he crashed his car into a gas station May 14.

Trent L. Hitchens was driving a 2014 Ford Mustang southbound on Shiloh Church Road when he failed to stop at a the intersection of Route 24, said Master Cpl. Gary Fournier of the Delaware State Police.

Hitchens drove into a gas pump at the Sandy Fork General Store before crashing into the front of the store, Fournier said.

Hitchens was taken into custody at the scene; his passenger Raymond C. Davis, 29, of Millsboro was airlifted to Christiana Hospital where he is in stable condition, Fournier said.

Hitchens was charged with first-degree vehicular assault, driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to have insurance in possession, failure to have registration in possession, failure to have a license in possession and failure to stop at a stop sign. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $2,800 secured bond.
