Girl Scouts offer summer day camps starting June 16

Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay is getting ready for another summer camp season at its four locations, including Camp Todd in Denton, Md.

Camp Todd offers five weeks of day camp from June 16 to July 18 for all girls entering grades 1-6. Cost is $130 per girl (girls who are not current Girl Scouts pay an additional $15). For only $45 per week, transportation is available from Easton, Md.; Denton; or Preston, Md.

In addition to specific weekly themed activities, girls entering grades 1-3 will test their balance on stand-up paddleboards. Girls in grades 4-6 will do archery, kayak and canoe.

In the first camp, Mer-mastic, Splash-tastic, June 16-20, campers will go on a beach hunt, improve waterfront skills, slide down the slip-and-slide and have fun with super soakers. There will be a beach picnic and a sand castle building contest. The week ends with a splash with campers playing all-camp Water Olympics.

Outdoor Survivor occurs June 23-27 at Camp Todd. Campers will build fires and play at the beach. Everyone will learn how to build smart shelters in the woods, read a map, use a compass and learn knife safety. Also included are arts and crafts, geocaching, sports and team-building challenge activities. Finally, campers will put all new skills to the test with a fun Adventure Challenge with the whole camp.

Camp Hogwarts, a week of adventure and wizardry, is scheduled for June 30-July 4 and begins with a welcome sorting ceremony. Campers will create and perform science experiments in Potions and Transfiguration class, explore Hogwarts’ trails and learn to identify edible and poisonous plants in Herbology class.

Music, art, drama and dance are highlighted in Applause Camp July 7-11. Campers will paint in the trees in the new outside painting garden. Each day focuses on another adventure in the arts.

Iron Chef Girls, July 14-18, features a week spent on making great food and amazing desserts. Campers will practice knife skills, gain food safety knowledge, acquire basic culinary awareness and more. At the end of the week, campers will put new cooking skills to the test in a fun competition of who can make the best dessert.
