MES teachers make national Dream Team, will attend TeachFest June 4-7

May 26, 2014

Milton Elementary School third-grade teachers Kate Bowski and Karen Warner have been selected to join the 2014 LearnZillion Dream Team. They are two of the 200 selected out of 4,000 applicants nationwide, a selection ratio that shows it's harder to get onto the Dream Team than into any Ivy League school.

LearnZillion is an education technology start-up dedicated to championing teachers and creating powerful student learning experiences. LearnZillion equips educators with a collaborative professional learning platform, and offers teachers, students and parents a growing library of high-quality, digital resources developed by expert teachers directly from the Common Core State Standards. By enabling teachers to scale their impact, the company creates new possibilities for classroom learning and professional development in the industry as a whole.

"Working with so many talented educators on the Delaware Dream Team has been truly inspiring. The National Dream Team will expand my horizons even more, and I look forward to bringing this new learning back to the Cape Henlopen School District," said Bowski.

The Dream Team will convene in New Orleans for TeachFest, a professional development event from June 4-7, where they will kick off a rigorous summer-long collaboration to create high-quality lesson plans, videos, formative assessment tools and intervention resources that will support teachers implementing the Common Core across the United States. Following TeachFest, Dream Team members will return to their respective districts and continue to work in facilitated online professional learning communities.

"After working on the Delaware DreamTeam for the past few months, I feel my knowledge of the standards has grown exponentially. With the National Dream Team, I have an opportunity to work with teachers from across the United States. I am eager to learn more about the standards and how other states are implementing them," Warner said.

Bowski and Warner are the only two teachers from the same school and the same grade level to ever have made a National Dream Team.
