Howard Cox, Purple Heart recipient

Howard Cox, 88, of Lewes, formerly of Centreville, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Saturday, May 10, 2014.

He was born in Netcong, N.J. to the late John Nelson and Mary Cox. Howard was an Army veteran of World War II, in the 112th Horse Calvary and was a recipient of a Purple Heart from injuries during battle in Japan. He retired as a supervisor after 40 years at General Motors, Boxwood Road. Howard was a Mason. He enjoyed collecting and repairing clocks, boating, fishing and collecting G scale trains. He also enjoyed his time at the beach and most of all his time with his family. Howard will always be remembered by the humor that brought smiles to many.

His wife of 31 years, Dianne (Cooper) Coxm died in 1978. Howard is survived by his daughter Suzanne E. Cox and her husband Mark of Lewes; his four-legged companion, Dolle; two sisters, Mary Redick of Newark and Adeline Trabbold of Townsend; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his five brothers and twosisters.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 20, at 1:30 p.m., at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilmington, where friends may call after 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in Lower Brandywine Cemetery, Centreville.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Howard's name to Meals on Wheels, Lewes-Rehoboth, 32409 Lewes Georgetown Hwy., Lewes, DE 19958.
