2014 Canal Flounder Tournament a success

May 27, 2014

The 2014 Canal Flounder Tournament was a great success, with over 290 anglers. The event went off well May 17, despite rescheduling due to nasty weather on the original date of May 16. Joe and Amanda at Lewes Harbour Marina extended many thanks to all who took part, especially those who juggled schedules to fish Saturday rather than Friday, and to sponsors the Dewey Beach Lions Club and Martek.

Chad Mitchell captured first with his 4.33-pounder. Tim West was second with a 3.98-pound flounder. Shane Townsend secured third with a 3.76-pound flattie. Ty Sherwood's 3.69-pounder was fourth. Alvin Layton landed the 3.6-pound fifth-place fish. Matt Purnell put a 3.59-pounder on the board for sixth. Gene Stalls got the seventh-place 3.44-pound fluke. Julie Gentile missed the group photo op, but her 3.27-pound flatfish earned eighth place. Jimmy Joseph rounded out the lineup with his 3.25-pounder for ninth heaviest. A $1,450 donation from entry fees will be made to Camp Awareness.
