Lutheran Church mission trip to Point Pleasant, N.J., set June 7-15

The Lutheran Church of Our Savior member Barbara Morris has been working with a Hurricane Sandy response team at The Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Point Pleasant, N.J., planning a mission trip June 7-15 to rebuild a severely damaged home. Six members from LCOS will travel to Point Pleasant to work on The Pirl Project.

The Pirl family's home in Point Pleasant Beach was ravaged by the 2012 storm.  The family situation is unique in that 24-year-old Caitlin Pirl lives with her parents after sustaining a traumatic brain injury that has left her partially paralyzed for four years. The level of care required for Caitlin has stretched the family’s resources to their limits.

The Pirl Project involves local groups and businesses which have joined together to demolish the storm-ravaged home and construct a new, handicapped-accessible home designed specifically around Caitlin’s needs.

Groups have contributed gas cards and funds to purchase a power chair for Caitlin to replace the one destroyed by the storm. Monetary donations for this project can be made to The Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 20276 Bay Vista Road, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971 designated to the Point Pleasant Mission Project.
