Sussex needs funds for senior transportation

May 31, 2014

First of all, thanks go to Ron MacArthur for his fine coverage of the issue. The University of DE Public Policy Institute performed a study for the General Assembly regarding transportation in Delaware. Their findings for the projected elder population of Sussex County were alarming.

By 2030, Sussex County will have 80,000 seniors of its 200,000-plus total population. Of those, 12,000 will be 85-plus and there are very limited transportation options for these people, many of whom wish to age in place.

We have calculated that we need to raise $2 for each senior citizen in Sussex in order to affiliate with ITNAmerica and open our services. Individual donations would greatly help.

Please write checks to: Delaware Community Foundation. Memo Line: Sussex Senior Transportation Cooperative and mail to: Nancy Feichtl, #16 Leighs Way, Rehoboth, DE 19971.
