Time for new representation in Sussex

May 30, 2014

Action at the May 13 Sussex County Council meeting by council members Sam Wilson and Vance Phillips was shocking. By declining to give grants of $100 each to the Lower Sussex NAACP Youth Council they showed their lack of understanding and respect for the oldest grassroots civil rights organization in this country.

The NAACP was founded by a group of white and black citizens “to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate racial hatred and racial discrimination." The comments they made show that these two council members clearly do not work in the best interest of citizens of Sussex County.

It is time for new representation in this county.  I am joining the NAACP today and pledging support for Shirley Price to bring a progressive nonracist perspective to the council.
