Virginia 'Ginnie' Mae Schaffer, loved God and family

May 28, 2014

Ms. Virginia "Ginnie" "Nana" Mae Lorah Schaffer, 86, of Georgetown, went to be with the Lord Sunday, May 25, 2014.

Regarded as a loving, comical, but “serious at times” daughter, wife, mother, and friend, Virginia faithfully served her Lord, family, friends and community with all her heart. She was a light to everyone who came in contact with her. Virginia’s love for God and family remains steadfast and true; her sweetness and unconditional love is what carried us all through. The proverb, “Good things come in small packages” certainly holds true with “Ginnie.” As God called her to do, she laid the foundation in each and every one of our hearts; befriending and raising us all in the way we should go so that we would never depart.

Virginia was born March 31, 1928, in Vera Cruz, Leigh County, Pa., daughter of the late Daniel Weller Lorah, and Florence (Hartman) Lorah. She was sister to Mildred (Lorah) Gross and the late Mary Alice (Lorah) Schoch.

“Ginnie” was loved by her late husband, Paul Edward Schaffer; and daughter, Gail Jane (Bailey); and is survived by her son Jeffery Paul Schaffer and daughters Andrea Joy (Brown) and Jan Robin (Brown). “Nana” dearly loved and cherished all of her grandchildren - 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

A public viewing will be held at 6 p.m., Friday, May 30, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, with the memorial service beginning at 7 p.m. Interment for close family and friends will be held Monday, June 2, at 10 a.m., in Carey’s Cemetery Millsboro.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dagsboro Church of God, 32224 DuPont Blvd., Dagsboro, DE 19939.
