Neverending Nightmares preview

May 29, 2014

Neverending Nightmares is the most interesting game I played at PAX East 2014.

There’s always a lot to see at game conventions. I went to all three days of PAX East and didn’t even come close to seeing everything I wanted to see. I wandered into the Kickstarter room, looking for my fiancé, when I saw a game that caused me to stop dead in my tracks. That game was Neverending Nightmares.

Neverending Nightmares is a game created by Matt Gilgenbach of Infinitap Games. It’s a psychological horror game inspired by Gilgenbach’s real-life struggles with depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

When I got my hands on the demo at PAX, I didn’t want it to end. Neverending Nightmares will make you jump occasionally, but what’s really bone-chilling about it is how it affects you mentally. It truly is a psychological horror game. The game throws you right into the middle of this young man’s nightmare, and you must determine what is real and what isn’t. When you “die,” you wake up from one nightmare and enter a new one (hence, “Neverending Nightmares”).

The project met its goal on Kickstarter, but you can still back the project at www.neverendingnightmares.com/back.html.

The game is scheduled to release around Halloween of this year.
