Work on boat ramp connector road in Lewes nears final stage

June 9, 2014

A section of Park Road will not be complete for about another month, Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control officials say. The primary purpose of the connector road from New Road to Pilottown Road is to reduce towed-boat traffic that otherwise has to go through downtown Lewes to and from the Lewes boat ramp.

The half-mile extension passes the University of Delaware's wind turbine and runs behind the College of Earth, Ocean and Environment Hugh Sharp Campus. The $1.8 million project is expected to be completed by the end of June, said Cindy Todd, construction project administrator for the Division of Parks and Recreation design and development office.

Work on the road started in October 2013 after four years of discussions between DNREC, University of Delaware, Delaware Department of Transportation and City of Lewes officials.
