James J. Burke, 70, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at his residence. He was born Aug. 28, 1943, in Philadelphia, Pa., son of the late Francis P. and Mary Edna (Fisher) Burke.
Mr. Burke enjoyed a 20-year career as a sales representative for the Reuben H. Donnelley Corporation, retiring in 1994. Following his career in sales, Mr. Burke embarked on a second career, as a parking coordinator for St. Ann's Catholic Church in Bethany Beach. He was an avid golfer, holding memberships with both Cripple Creek Golf and Country Club in Dagsboro and also Salt Pond Golf Club in Bethany Beach. One of Mr. Burke's proudest moments in life was receiving his 35-year Bronze Sobriety Chip.
Mr. Burke is survived by his loving wife MaryAnn (Berenato) Burke; three sons, Brian P. Burke and wife Stephanie, Joseph F. Burke, and James S. Burke and wife Kaitlyn; six grandchildren: Hope, Christian, Colin, Rylie, Brody and Bentley; three sisters: Frances McQuillan and husband Robert, Jeanne Burke, and Mary Donato and husband Joseph; two brothers: Francis P. Burke and wife Frances, and Michael J. Burke and wife Joann; sister in-law: Darlene G. Berenato; and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Monday, June 2, at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 691 Garfield Parkway, Bethany Beach, where friends may call at the church beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will be private.
