Joseph Stevenson Sr., self-employed carpenter

Joseph A. Stevenson Sr. died Thursday, May 29, 2014, at the Milford Center. Mr. Stevenson was the son of the late Percy and Mabel Stevenson and was raised on a farm in Milton.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corp Reserve. He worked as a self-employed carpenter for many years, ending his career at Slocomb Windows. He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church, Milton. Joe loved his pet dog and cats. He also enjoyed hunting when he had the opportunity.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepdaughter Lynette Miller; two brothers Reese and Robert Stevenson; and two sisters Catherine Webb and Betty Lank. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Annette Stevenson; a daughter JoAllison Jester and her husband Terry of Milford; two sons Brian Stevenson of Harrington and Joseph A. Stevenson Jr. and his wife Maria, of Sudlersville, Md.; stepson Stanton Miller of North East, Md.; two stepdaughters Deborah Ruff and her husband Joseph of Townsend, and Elizabeth Bradley and her husband Brian of Chadds Ford, Pa.; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, June 2, at the Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Ave., Milford. Friends may also call Tuesday, June 3, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Zion United Methodist Church, 26743 Broadkill Road, Milton where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Zion United Methodist Church, c/o 707 Atlantic Ave., Milton, DE 19968.
