Doris K. Veasey, retired telephone operator

Doris K. Veasey, 82, of Georgetown, passed away Monday, June 2, 2014, at Beebe Healthcare, Lewes.

Doris was born in Milton, daughter of the late William Kincade and Grace (Betts) Conway.

She was a telephone operator for many years, starting her career with Diamond State Telephone Company (now Verizon), where she retired. She then went on to work as head telephone operator for DelDOT in Dover, retiring in 1997.

Doris loved dancing, playing cards, going to the beach, crabbing and clamming, but she especially loved spending time with her family and her lifelong friends, whom she loved dearly.

In addition to her mother and father, Doris is preceded in death by her former husband, the late Donald Veasey.

She is survived by her five children, Sherrie Morris (Dave) of Milford, Jill Blasetto (Jim) of Chadds Ford, Pa., Jan Mervine (Mcky) of Annapolis, Md., Donna Chambers (Tim), of Laurel, and Donald “Skip” Veasey (Karen) of Charlottesville, Va.; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by four half-sisters: Helen Marie Wahreaberger, Wilma Wyatt, Tenie Bradley and Elizabeth Ciancuilli.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 6, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, with visitation after 10 a.m. Burial will immediately follow in Union Cemetery.
