Aline 'DeeDee' Schenck, retired secretary

Aline "DeeDee" Rachel Bird Schenck, 84, of Rehoboth Beach, formerly of Newark, died after a short illness Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes.

Mrs. Schenck was preceded in death by her husband Robert Frederick Schenck, who died Oct. 24, 1994. Mrs. Schenck was born in Wilmington, the daughter of the late William Lore Bird and Isabel Rachel Beck Bird.

She was a graduate of Conrad High School and was active in high school reunion activities with other members of her class.

She began her work career as a secretary at TWA and moved on to DuPont. She married Robert Schenck in 1954. Content being a housewife and mother of three sons, Mrs. Schenck began working as an assistant art teacher for Stanton Middle School in 1970. She then worked as secretary to the dean of education, University of Delaware from 1975-80 before retiring.

Mr. and Mrs. Schenck moved to Winding Creek Village, Millsboro, in 1987 where they were both members of The Lutheran Church of Our Savior, Rehoboth Beach. Mrs. Schenck moved to the Villages of Old Landing in 1997.

She is survived by three sons, Robert F. Schenck and his wife Cindy of Bear, William "Sandy" Schenck and his wife Linda of Wilmington, and John D. Schenck of Rehoboth Beach; a brother William Lore Bird of Millsboro; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 6, in The Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 7 Bay Vista Road, Rehoboth Beach. In addition, there will be a graveside service at 2 p.m. that same day in Gracelawn Memorial Park, Minquadale.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 7 Bay Vista Road, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
