Steppin' Up To The Plate

Get out and vote next Thursday, June 12!

June 5, 2014

Mark your calendar! On Thursday, June 12 from 5 – 8 p.m., ten of the best local chefs will compete at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center for Top Chef of the Culinary Coast. Proceeds will benefit our local Meals on Wheels Lewes/Rehoboth and their continuing efforts to feed even more of our deserving Sussex County seniors.

The star-studded lineup will feature Kevin Reading (founder of Espuma and Nage, and now Abbott’s Grill in Milford and Laurel); Bramble and Brine’s chef/owner Joey Churchman; Gretchen Hanson, chef/owner of Hobos; Ronnie Burkle and Maurice Catlett from Matt Haley’s Northeast Seafood Kitchen and Fish On!; the talented Paul Gallo from Nage, and New York’s own Ciro Verdi (Bobby Flay Throwdown alumnus) competing for Touch of Italy. Ed & Lynn Lester’s Brick Hotel, Big Fish Restaurant Group’s Salt Air and Rehoboth Beach Country Club are also vying for your vote for the most delicious creation.

But it’s not just about the Top Chef! You’ll also be choosing the Food You Couldn’t Live Without, the Most Creative Chef, the Best Reinvention of a Delmarva Tradition, and of course, the Sexiest Food. (Word on the street is that this category will be a grudge match among some of our particularly alluring chefs - I’ll leave it to you to decide who’s who.)

Sussex County takes its seniors seriously, and generous sponsors have contributed their time and resources to make this happen.

16 Mile Brewery and Delaware Distilling Company will turn your drink tickets into delicious libations, while the Cape Gazette,  U.S. Foods, Delmarva Public Radio, WBOC Television, Southern Delaware Tourism and your own Rehoboth Foodie work together to make this a premiere culinary event in Sussex County.

Enjoy continuous live music from former Bad Company rocker Paul Cullen and the talented Viki Dee. They join Sussex County farmers, ranchers and producers (see them at www.LocalOnTheMenu.com), Sign-A-Rama, KC Home Improvement, Rehoboth Beach Main Street and Red Sun Custom Apparel in welcoming you to one of the few events where you actually get to decide who wins! Tickets are $45 per person (over 21 only). Reserve yours now at Cape Gazette in Nassau Commons, the Meals On Wheels office in Lewes, or at Rehoboth Beach Main Street adjacent to the Convention Center.

Or go online to www.VisitSouthernDelaware.com/TopChef. Don’t miss this one - I’ll see you there!
