Marvin Cummings, foster grandparent

June 5, 2014

Marvin Cummings, 66, of Lewes, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, June 1, 2014.

Marvin was from Oklahoma City, Okla. He was a beloved foster grandparent for six years at the Milton Elementary School and served on the foster grandparent board.

Marvin held memberships for 15 years in the New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Dover, where he served as an usher and missionary. He was known by many churches for his camp meeting style of ushering. He served on the board of missions and as the pastor’s steward, traveling with and looking well to the needs of the pastor at home and away. Marvin was well loved by his pastor and church family, traveling many miles each Sunday to get to church; he served faithfully until his death.

Marvin enjoyed life to its fullest and will be missed by all of his many friends, church family and students.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Erma Cummings. He is survived by long-time friend, Frank Rothermel.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m., Monday, June 9, at New Jerusalem Baptist Church, 25 Jerusalem St., Dover.
