Uncle Louie G's opens in Rehoboth Beach.

First Delaware location offers Italian ice, candy, ice cream
June 17, 2014

Uncle Louie G's has been showing Rehoboth Avenue how Brooklyn does summer since early May.

With 43 flavors of Italian ice and 31 ice cream options, the franchise has been cooling off summer since 1959, general manager Erin McCarthy said.

"We have a lot of distinct flavors, vegan friendly and sugar-free," McCarthy said. "It's all homemade."

This is the first Uncle Louie G's store to open in Delaware, she said, but there are more than 40 locations internationally.

Assistant manager Mike Reis said May was quiet at Uncle Louie G's, but the reception to his frozen treats has been outstanding.

"Nobody really knows we are here yet, but we've been doing samples to attract a crowd," Reis said. "So far we've gotten great feedback on the product from locals and visitors."

Reis said he left a full-time job in northern New Jersey to open the new ice cream, water ice and bulk candy store in Rehoboth, and he's continually adding new products.

"After I tried the products, I became a believer," he said.

Uncle Louie G's is at 25 Rehoboth Ave. For information go to unclelouiegee.com or call 302-226-1188.
