John Wesley Troxell, retired banker

John Wesley Troxell, 67, of Lewes, passed away Thursday, June 12, 2014, at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford.

John was born to the late James and Sarah Troxell, May 5, 1947, in Clearfield, Pa. John graduated from Richmond Heights High School in 1965, and received a bachelor's degree in business administration in 1970, and a masters in business administration from Kent State University, Kent, Ohio, in 1973. He married Dr. Laura Helene Beale Troxell in 1970. They lived together in Ohio and Newark before relocating to Lewes in 2011.

John had a long career in banking. He started as a bank examiner for the federal government and ended as a senior vice president and director of management information systems for First USA Bank in Wilmington, until he retired in 1994. John then began working in the field of education in local area schools doing technology support, and as a computer technician for the libraries of the University of Delaware.

John loved to travel with his family and ride his Harley. He was an amateur astronomer and photographer, winning the first place “Seasons” photo award for the State of Delaware in 2003.

John is survived by his wife; daughter Heather Troxell Hendrickson (John), of Merion Station, Pa.; and his two grandchildren. John is also survived by his sister, Susan Versal of San Jose, Calif.

A memorial gathering in honor of John will be held for family and friends at a later date. The family is creating a scholarship for students attending the College of Business Administration of Kent State University in John’s name. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
