Firefly set to glow this weekend

Mega music fest starts June 19 in Dover

Delaware is ready to get lit with the third annual Firefly Music Festival at The Woodlands of Dover Downs International Speedway.  The event, which spans four days June 19-22, will feature headliners Foo Fighters, Outkast and Jack Johnson among a massive lineup on multiple stages on the Woodlands' 154 acres.

Firefly Music Festival is produced by Red Frog Events, an event production company based in Chicago.  Other Red Frog events include the Warrior Dash, the world’s largest obstacle race series, and American Beer Classic, a beer festival held in iconic sports stadiums.

Festivalgoers can expect to see the return of favorite attractions such as the Dogfish Head Brewery, The Arcade, The Coffee House, and Hammock Hangout with the addition of several attractions to be announced prior to the festival.

Firefly is partnering with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for the third year through the Music Gives to St. Jude Kids program. Festival attendees can support the lifesaving work of St. Jude on-site and leading up to the event through a variety of digital, mobile and live donation opportunities. Donations from Firefly fans will go toward Red Frog Events’ $25 million commitment to the St. Jude Red Frog Events Proton Therapy Center, opening in 2015 on St. Jude’s campus in Memphis.

DelDOT welcomes Firefly fans

DelDOT’s Transportation Management Center staff in coordination with the City of Dover Police and Delaware State Police will monitor traffic in and around the Dover vicinity to ensure safe travel for motorists.  Due to the number of patrons attending the festival, Leipsic Road and Persimmon Tree Road in the vicinity of Dover International Speedway will be closed to through traffic beginning at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 19 until Sunday evening, June 22. At the conclusion of the festival, all roads will be reopened.

Real-time traffic conditions and travel times will be available on WTMC 1380 AM; at www.map.deldot.gov; and on the DelDOT smartphone app, free for download at Google Play and the Apple app store.
