Saving Money on Closing Costs

- Private group -
July 10, 2014

Buying a home not only involves the cost of the home and the down payment, but it also involves closing costs. Closing costs are fees charged by lenders, lawyers, municipalities and state government. With a little bit of thought, you can save yourself some money for these out of pocket expenses. First, before you look at a house, contact a lender. Some programs allow you to finance some of the above fees. Secondly look to the seller to contribute money towards your closing costs. This is a direct credit from the seller to you given at Settlement. Third, know that some items can be negotiated in the contract of sale. Some items like the transfer taxes may be paid in full by the seller. Fourth, ask for settlement quotes from three lawyers that specialize in Real Estate Law. Ask your Realtor for three law firms they know that will do a good job for you at a convenient location.  Ask for a quote for all of their fees plus owners and lenders title insurance. Have the law firm send you the quote in writing. Enjoy your savings!
