New Hope Recreation and Development Center has been awarded a 2014 Freeman Foundation FACES Award of $5,000. This award will be used to support the organization's summer program, which begins June 30 and runs through Aug. 7.
The center’s program includes a very rigorous academic plan that focuses on math, science and reading. The older youth will organize and participate in a book club. Each week will feature a theme and related activities. Recreation will include bowling, skating, swimming, movies, golfing and bicycle safety.
The program concludes with a trip to Splash Mountain in Ocean City, Md. Parents and community will be invited to a barbecue in which the youth will be awarded certificates recognizing academic achievement as well as their participation in the other New Hope programs. The youth will receive community service credits for their participation in the Delaware Read Aloud Program.
