Mary Amelia Phillips, devoted to family

Mary Amelia Phillips, 76, of Seaford, went to be with the Lord Friday, June 20, 2014, with her family at her side.

Mary was born in Pittsville, Md., Feb. 23, 1938, to the late Preston John Walter Smith and Wilsie F. Layton Smith. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by three siblings, Jimmy Smith, Ethel Lathbury and John Smith.

Mary was a member of Oak Orchard Community Church. She loved reading, playing Yahtzee, going to yard sales, and camping. She was a kind, strong woman who was deeply devoted to her family and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Albert V. Phillips Sr. of Seaford; six children, Florence Ellen Smith and her husband Bruce of Millsboro, Mary F. Wallace of Millsboro, Albert V. Phillips Jr. and his wife Tammy of Dagsboro, Beverly Wells and her husband Ben of Seaford, Thomas Phillips of Seaford and Anna Rossington and her husband Mark of Gainsboro, Tenn.; a sister, Phyllis Bare and her husband Jack; a brother, David Smith and his wife Pat; 15 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews cousins, extended family and friends as well as her beloved canine friend Tater.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, June 27, at Oak Orchard Community Church, 32615 Oak Orchard Road, Millsboro, where friends may call after 2 p.m. Pastor Allen Miller will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Mary’s memory to Oak Orchard Community Church, Scholarship Fund, 32615 Oak Orchard Road, Millsboro, DE 19966.
