Applebee's supports Alex's Lemonade Stand with weekend bake sale

June 27, 2014

Residents of Rehoboth Beach helped raise $1,106 to support Alex’s Lemonade Stand through a three-day bake sale hosted by the local Applebee’s, 36501 Seaside Outlet Drive in Rehoboth.

Funds were raised through various restaurant volunteers and a total of 28 local businesses that donated baked goods and gift cards. In addition, the Bucklin family, who have a childhood cancer survivor, set up their own Alex's Lemonade Stand in front of the restaurant during the weekend-long bake sale and collected an extra $400 to assist in the fight against childhood cancer.

Alex's Lemonade Stand is a national foundation whose purpose is to support the fight against pediatric cancer. Its name stems from its founder, Alexandra Scott, who lost her fight against neuroblastoma when she was 8 years old. By the time she died in 2004, her idea to establish a lemonade stand in her front yard to fund cancer research had spread throughout the world, and she had raised more than $1 million to help find a cure for the disease which had taken her life.
