July 15, 2014

The weeklong U.S. Army Cadet Command Junior Cadet Challenge Summer Camp concluded June 25 with an awards ceremony at Cape Henlopen High School that recognized the achievements of selected cadets who attended.

The guest speaker for the ceremony was Pfc. Sylvester Lovett, a 2013 graduate of Cape Henlopen High School. The high schools represented at the camp were Cape Henlopen High School, Sussex Central High School, Sussex Technical High School, Appoquinimink High School, Mount Pleasant High School, and Wicomico County High School.

The purpose of the camp was to provide JROTC cadets challenging and meaningful hands-on training in a military environment that develops good citizenship, leadership, teamwork, problem solving, and patriotism.

During the course of the camp, the cadets participated in a variety of training activities that included rappelling off a 30-foot wall, a leadership reaction course, an obstacle course, land navigation, a challenging physical fitness test, precision drill, and leadership situations that challenged decision-making capabilities.
