The Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office reminds residents and visitors that the sale or possession of fireworks is illegal in Delaware.

"Fireworks ... they're as unpredictable as the weather," said Michael G. Chionchio, assistant state fire marshal.

Sparklers, sky lanterns and rockets are all illegal in the state, he said.

Only regulated public displays are permitted in Delaware.

"This Fourth of July, the Delaware State Fire Marshal and your local fire department urge you to leave fireworks where they belong – in the hands of professionals," Chionchio said.
