Health science students bring home awards

Eighteen Delaware health science students brought home top 10 finishes from the HOSA-Future Health Professionals 37th Annual National Leadership Conference in Orlando during the last week of June. Bansri Patel of Sussex Technical High School was also recognized as a National Technical Honor Society scholarship recipient during the conference’s opening session.

More than 50 Delaware HOSA students from Indian River and Sussex Central high schools, Hodgson Vo-Tech and St. Georges Technical High School, Polytech High School School and Sussex Technical High School participated in competitive events along with more than 7,000 students from around the country. The categories of competitive events included health professions, emergency preparedness, health sciences, teamwork and leadership.

Cape Region students who finished in the top 10 include the following, by category: Dental Science - Hiten Patel, Sussex Technical High School (gold medal winner), and Thomas Pinto, Sussex Technical High School (silver medal winner); Dental Terminology - Abigail Adams, Sussex Tech High School (bronze medal winner), and Kaitlyn Neibert, Sussex Tech High School; Health Career Display - Katie Boyle, Indian River High School and Lili Cooney, Indian River High School; Job Seeking Skills - Henson Destine, Sussex Technical High School; Medical Reading - Holly Schilling, Sussex Technical High School; Medical Terminology - Danny Halloran, Sussex Technical High School.
