Evelyn Cross Young, retired cook

Evelyn Loraine (Cross) Young, 85, of Ellendale, passed away Monday,  June 30, 2014, at Bayhealth Milford Hospital in Milford. She was born Dec. 17, 1928, in Baltimore, Md., daughter of the late Joshua and Ruby (Johnson) Cross.

Mrs. Young started her working career as a file clerk at Spring Grove State Hospital in Catonsville, Md. She would later become a cook with the St. John's Lane Elementary School in Ellicott City, Md. Mrs. Young loved crocheting afghans for family and friends and traveling when time permitted. She enjoyed all types of dancing, word games and playing cards. Mrs. Young was a dedicated mother, gram-cracker and Grammy.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Young was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Charles Sherman Young; two brothers: Joshua Thomas Cross and Raymond Edward Cross; one sister, Gertrude Cross; and a grandson, David Christian Young. She is survived by two sons, Charles Robert Young of Chestertown, Md. and Scott Harrison Young of Dover; one daughter, Laura May Williams of Ellendale; eight grandchildren: Gina Marie Morgan, Christina Lynn Shipp, George Sherman Young, Bobbi Bea Sproates, Benjamin Christopher Young, Jennifer Lynn Curtin-Caylor, Kathleen Ann Ballard, Amy Elizabeth Wells; and 20 great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, July 12, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 237 Lebanon Road, Dover. Interment will be private. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Bridgeville.
