Milton 9-10 All-Stars win District 3 Championship

The Milton 9-10-year-old All-Stars dominated Laurel 12-2 in five innings July 6 to win the Little League All-Star District 3 Championship at Clifford Lee Memorial Park.

Milton battled out of the bottom bracket after a 9-8 loss to Laurel last week to defeat Laurel 8-2 July 5 to force a final matchup July 6.

The Milton bats were hot as Hunter Rauch went 3 for 4 with a double and three runs scored, Chase Boyle went 2 for 2 with a double and four runs scored. Brian Sponaugle went 2 for 4 with a double and two runs scored, and he knocked in two.

Nick Cox went yard in the third inning with a three-run home run, had two walks and two runs scored.

Austin Rhue went 2 for 3 with three RBIs and a walk. Luke Crouch singled in a runner.

Chase Boyle pitched two-and-two-thirds innings and had seven strikeouts. Nick Cox pitched one-and-a-third innings and put three Ks in the book.

"It's been a exciting experience watching the boys play as well as they have and the way they represented Milton," said manager Zac Crouch. "It's the second year that they won the title and I'm very proud of the team and my coaches Paris (Mitchell), Scott (Husbands) and Rusty (Rauch)."

In July 5 action, Milton scored six runs in the first three innings and never looked back, downing Laurel 8-2 to set up Sunday's matchup for the championship.

Ty Husbands threw four-and-two-thirds innings, picking up eight strikeouts and no earned runs to get the win.

Chase Boyle went 3 for 3 from the plate with a double and two RBIs. Nick Cox also doubled for Milton while Brian Sponaugle slammed a triple and knocked in two. Timmy Hitchcock drove in two runners for Milton.

Milton will represent District 3 in the State Tournament that begins on July 24 in Dover.
