Heidi Lowe Gallery to display Gem Specification July 12

Heidi Lowe Gallery will host an opening for Gem Specification from 6 to 9 p.m., Saturday, July 12. In the show, jewelry artists Nikki Couppee and Shelly McMahon’s work focuses on the fascination with and reimagining of the gemstone in jewelry.

“Usually, gemstones are used with nonprecious metals to replicate fine jewelry,” gallery owner Lowe said. “Nikki and Shelly have explored this in their latest work by creating gemstones out of plastic, leather, and balsa wood. This work is an original and intellectual take on what we think of as costume jewelry.”

The gallery’s next opening, Home, by jewelry artists Karen Vanmol and Courtney Kemps, will be from 6 to 9 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 9. Heidi Lowe Gallery is also now serving locally roasted, sustainably sourced Tiny Bean Coffee Company coffee drinks including espressos, Americanos, lattes and cappuccinos.
