Telephone ringing, emails and Facebook signaling dire predictions, postponements and cancellations were scuttled when at 1:12 p.m., July Fourth, the intrepid Kathy McGuiness, soaking wet and windblown, announced, Hurricane be damned -Fireworks are on! and for the 17th time, Rehoboth Beach hosted more than 80,000 guests to this explosive tribute to independence. For 14 years, Kathy has led the effort that makes this possible - and each year, better than the one before. And if you congratulate her on her efforts, you will receive an all-in-a-day’s-work shrug.
That’s how Kathy McGuiness, Rehoboth local, pharmacist, research scientist, founder of Main Street, mother, wife, daughter, sister, views her life. A human dynamo, she gets results. She served as a City of Rehoboth Beach commissioner under Mayor Sam Cooper for 12 years with the same kind of can-do demeanor. Let’s return her to the city commission this August.
