Adele LaVere Carey, loved gardening

July 9, 2014

Adele LaVere Carey, 92, of Georgetown, passed away at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes Monday, July 7, 2014, after a short illness.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William F. Carey; and two sons, James A. Carey and John G. Carey.

Adele is survived by her children: Dr. Sharon Eypper and husband Dr. George Eypper of Worcester, Mass., William F. Carey Jr. of Milton, Terry C. Kansak and husband Alexander Kansak III of Georgetown, Sue Ellen Harper of Marrero, La., Andrew J. Carey of Georgetown, and David A Carey of Norfolk, Va.; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; and a large extended family of brothers, sisters, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Adele graduated from Caesar Rodney High School and then attended secretarial school. She worked at Draper King Cole for many years before raising her family. As her own children grew older, Adele began a home day care where she nurtured others who lovingly called her Mom-dell.

She led a very active life until the end. She attended Grace Methodist Church of Georgetown, played cards frequently with friends, and kept in close contact with many friends and family. Always proud of her flower gardens, she started vegetable gardening three years ago and enjoyed cooking and preserving the results. Adele also sewed and had made several quilts which will be cherished by her family.

A memorial service will be held Friday July 11, at 11 a.m., in the chapel of Grace Methodist Church, 7 South King St., Georgetown. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Grace Methodist Church in her honor.
