Rehoboth to hold special meeting July 11
The Rehoboth Beach commissioners will hold a special meeting, 9 a.m., Friday, July 11, in the city commissioners’ room, to decide appeals of the citywide property reassessment.
The commissioners heard more than 60 appeals June 19 and June 20 related to the reassessment, the city’s first since 1968.
Rehoboth Beach planners to meet July 11
The Rehoboth Beach Planning Commission will meet at 6:30 p.m., Friday, July 11, in the city commissioners’ room, to discuss preparation for the yet-to-be-scheduled joint meeting with the city commissioners on swimming pools in residential areas.
The commission will discuss and vote on a request to extend the deadline to complete conditions on an approved partitioning at 49 Park Ave. and finalize a conditionally approved minor subdivision at 114 St. Lawrence St.
In other business, the commission will review, discuss and possibly finalize its recommendations for changes on the city’s tree ordinance. There will be discussion on the comments and recommendations to the Henlopen Acres comprehensive plan. The commission will also discuss Rehoboth’s comprehensive plan update.
Marijuana bill gone but not forgotten
A bill that would have decriminalized small amounts of marijuana possession may have died in Delaware's last legislative session, but its sponsor has vowed to bring it back next session.
“I think we're moving in the right direction,” said Rep. Helene Keeley, D-Wilmington South.
Keeley introduced a bill in late May that would have decriminalized possession of less than an ounce of marijuana. Possessing an ounce or less would then be a civil charge with a fine, and not a criminal charge.
The measure was voted out of committee and made it to the House agenda June 30 – the last legislative day – but died when the session ended and no action had been taken.
Still, for the bill to have moved that quickly from committee to agenda, Keeley said, shows promise for next session. Of the responses she received following the bill's introduction, she said, 98 percent of the people she spoke with were supportive of the bill.
Keeley said she encourages constituents to contact their legislators and share their thoughts on the bill.
She said she intends to pre-file in December another bill with the exact same wording as the previous bill.
Lewes city council meets July 14
Lewes Mayor and City Council will meet at 7 p.m., Monday, July 14, at city hall. The annexation petition submitted by Highland Acres residents will be discussed by council. Also on the agenda is the consideration of conditional acceptance of the Anglers Nest subdivision on Angler's Road.
Beebe Medical Center Inc. is also requesting a zoning change for two properties – 406 and 410 Market St. – from residential medium-density historic to the community facilities health care classification. Council may schedule a public hearing for both properties.

Dewey Beach election voter deadline July 15
The deadline to register to vote for Dewey Beach’s 2014 election is 5 p.m., July 15.
Eligible voters have to be at least 18 years old and also a resident, a property owner, hold a valid lease for at least five years, or be a trustee of a trust that’s a property owner.
Registration forms can be found online at the town’s website at www.townofdeweybeach.com. Forms are to be printed out and faxed in to (302) 227-8319 or mailed to town hall at 105 Rodney Ave.
The town’s election will take place Sept. 20.
Dewey Beach planners to meet July 12
The Dewey Beach Planning Commission will hold their regularly scheduled monthly meeting at 1 p.m., Saturday, July 12, in the Dewey Beach Life Saving Station, 1 Dagsworthy Ave.
Agenda items include zoning requirements for the Neighborhood Residential District, issues related to floodplain management and sea-level rise, and potential administrative provisions made to planning code.
