Music school, art league partner for Sight & Sound Camp Aug. 4-7

July 22, 2014

Music and art will be brought together in an exciting multidisciplinary camp offered in a collaboration of The Music School of Delaware and Mispillion Art League, now in its fourth year. Campers will enjoy daily group lessons in guitar and flute, and in painting and drawing.

Sight & Sound Camp is open to ages 8-14 and will take place Monday, Aug. 4 to Thursday, Aug. 7, from 9 a.m. to noon each day. Tuition is $160. Register by Monday, July 28.

"We're excited to partner with Mispillion Art League again for this camp," said Katie Inie-Richards, Milford Branch director for the Music School of Delaware. "I know the participants will really enjoy beginning guitar and flute lessons as well as creating works of art."

"Each year, Sight & Sound Camp gives us a chance to put together a truly unique and fun week of art to encourage the campers as they try new instruments - even the visual arts part of camp has a music theme," said Cathy Walls, the camp's lead teacher for Mispillion Art League.

"For example, this year campers will listen to Sergei Prokofiev's musical story 'Peter and the Wolf.' While they listen, they will learn about naturalist art and paint one of the animals from the story. Another day they will learn a little something about surrealism and make collage art using sheet music just like Belgian surrealist Rene Magritte."  Other camp activities will include clay working and sun prints.

To register, call The Music School of Delaware at 302-422-2043 or the Mispillion Art League at 302-430-7646. The Music School of Delaware is at 10 S. Walnut St., Milford.
