Winners of Hunting and Fishing Photo Contest honored

On July 24 at the Delaware State Fair, Gov. Jack Markell, Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control Secretary David Small and Division of Fish and Wildlife Director David Saveikis honored the winners of the Division of Fish and Wildlife’s annual Hunting and Fishing Photo Contests that best represented the contest theme of Conservationists Enjoying the Great Outdoors.

The 2013 Fishing Photo Contest winner, “Emily’s First Bass,” taken at Wagamons Pond near Milton by 15-year-old Christopher Halsey of Dover, appears on the cover of the 2014 Delaware Fishing Guide. Emily Halsey, his 11-year-old sister, who is in the winning photo, joined him in accepting his award.

Also recognized were second-place winner Daniel Halsey of Dover and honorable mentions Tammy Halsey of Dover, Joey Melvin of Georgetown and Jack Tsai of Wilmington.

The 2013-14 Hunting Photo Contest winner, “Patiently Waiting,” taken by Jason Gary of Hartly, appears on the cover of the just-published 2014-15 Delaware Hunting and Trapping Guide. His winning photo shows his 15-year-old nephew Christopher Halsey with a duck call and family dog Yukon along the St. Jones River. Jason’s family joined him in accepting the award.

Also recognized were second-place winner Jennifer Harris of Harrington and honorable mentions Jason Courtney of Magnolia, Kenneth Henning of Wilmington and Molly McNatt of Clayton.

The Division of Fish and Wildlife is accepting Fishing Photo Contest entries through Wednesday, Oct. 15, for the 2015 Delaware Fishing Guide to be published next spring. This year's theme is Taking Action for Conservation.

Entries may be mailed to the DNREC Division of Fish and Wildlife, Attention: Crystal Beck, 89 Kings Highway, Dover, DE 19901. All Fishing Photo Contest entries must be postmarked or delivered by Oct. 15, and must include a completed and signed entry form. A photo release form signed by a parent or guardian also is required if a minor child is in the photo. The division’s 2014-15 Hunting Photo Contest will accept entries from Monday, Sept. 1, to Saturday, Jan. 31, with similar guidelines. This year’s contest theme is Hunters in Action.
