Troopers are investigating a single-vehicle crash July 29 that claimed the life of a Townsend man.

The incident occurred around 2 p.m. as Michael L. Indellini, 56, of Townsend, was operating a 1995 Ford F150 pickup truck northbound on Cods Road just north of Prime Hook Road. The pickup exited the east side of the road and continued northbound along the grass edge of the road before the front of the truck struck a utility pole. The impact caused the pole to snap in half while the truck continued north approximately 13 feet before coming to rest against the damaged pole.

There was no obvious trauma or injury to Indellini as a result of the collision, and preliminary investigation suggests a sudden-onset medical condition. Indellini was properly restrained in the vehicle and alcohol, drugs and speed do not appear to be a factor. The case was turned over the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, which will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing its investigation into this incident, and Cods Road between Prime Hook Road and 13 Curves Road was closed for approximately three and a half hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
