Boy, this summer is booming in Rehoboth Beach! Never seen it so crowded! Tommy at the farmers market told me yesterday he sold over a thousand ears of corn in a few hours. The corn is sprouting up almost as well as all the new houses in Rehoboth! Much less the racket made during their construction!
It seems to me as we approach the August 9 municipal elections mindfully, we should make our evaluations based on our being part of a very special community, but also an environment everyone wants to be a part of. Managing growth (and demand) is what it will be about for all of us. Poorly managed, we end up like the rest of Sussex County and Route 1. Ugh.
When I think about who I want to manage the process, I think I have to advocate voting for Sam Cooper for mayor, based on experience and a record of having kept Rehoboth Beach as much Rehoboth Beach as an evolving Rehoboth Beach can allow, and Francis "Bunky" Markert for city commissioner, because he is a CPA with wide experience running the numbers, and his own person, who will represent the voters, not his own personal alliances and ambition.
In any case, vote!
