Shirley Corinne Daisey, built strong family
Shirley Corinne (Street) Daisey, 79, of Dover, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2014. Born June 30, 1935, in Newport, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Martha Ann Street and the late Clarence Albert Street, formerly of Millsboro.
A proud wife, mother and homemaker, Shirley focused her life on building a strong family. She was never happier than at family reunions, holiday gatherings or just visiting with her friends and relatives. Shirley's welcoming smile and warm embrace made homecomings very special for all. She served the Girl Scouts of America as a local and regional scout leader for over 30 years. Shirley was a member of the Lioness/Lion Club for over 20 years, and was a Melvin Jones Fellow. She also very much enjoyed being a member of the "Birthday Club."
Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, William Harrison Daisey Sr. of Dover. She is also survived by eight children, William H. Daisey Jr. and his wife Linda M. (Washington) of Swedesboro, N.J., Sarah L. Minor and her husband Frank W. Minor III of Logan Township, wife Lisa W. (Franklin) of Silver Spring, Md., Darryl B. Daisey and his wife Sari A. (Rosemond) of Garnet Valley, Pa., Aida "Mam" (Boonsanong/Daisey) Binateeq and her husband Saleh Binateeq of Dover, Junina N. (Feeney) Sullivan and her husband Tyrone T. Sullivan of Dover, and Dionne L. Williford and her husband Evan O. Williford of Hockessin; two siblings, Elva E. (Street) Morris and her husband John W. Morris Jr. of St. Augustine, Fla., and Norman R. Street and his wife Janell (Wills) of San Diego, Calif.; 18 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a goddaughter, Tami Lee; and a number of loving cousins, in-laws, nephews, and nieces. Shirley, along with William, also helped to partially raise two nieces, Patsy Feeney of Millsboro, and Shirley Harris of Wilmington. Shirley was preceded in death by seven siblings, Edith M. (Street) Harmon, Melvin M. Street, Albert "Nelson" Street Sr., Tressa I. (Street) Carney, Emory W. Street, Catherine E. (Street) Hopkins, and her twin brother, Sherman Street.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014 at 1 p.m., at Harmony Methodist Church, 27270 John J. Williams Hwy., Millsboro, where friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Aug. 1, and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 2. Interment will follow at Harmony Methodist Church Cemetery in Millsboro.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to the Girl Scouts of America, Lion/Lion Club and Nanticoke Indian Association. Arrangements have been entrusted to Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover.
