Why (we need to elect) Kathy McGuiness

August 5, 2014

Three years ago, I asked for your vote, and now I am asking for it again. But, this time I ask that you place your trust in Kathy McGuiness as you have done before. She has been a part of this community since she was a child and it is a part of her. She was one of the reasons I wanted to join the commission in 2011. Her ability to look at an issue from many sides inspired me think I could do the same.

There is an ongoing debate in Rehoboth to find the right balance between “Keeping Rehoboth, Rehoboth” and letting some sunlight of change come into our town. Kathy embodies both of these seemingly competing sides.  As a daughter of this community she played in our parks, road her bike on our streets and when she grew up she raised a family here. Always thinking about Rehoboth Beach, she was the  founding president of Main Street, a group dedicated to the preservation and vitality of small towns and Main Streets across America.

As your elected official she was an advocate for our city with her peers, our state and local representatives, businesses and families from all neighborhoods north and south of Rehoboth Avenue and west of the shoreline.  We need her voice and leadership back on the board of commissioners.

So, as I said, I ask for you vote again, but this time to re-elect one of our own - Kathy McGuiness.

Mark Hunker
Rehoboth Beach City Commissioner
