CAMP Rehoboth VOV helps out at Milford Food Bank

Next date for VOV is Tuesday, Aug. 12
August 9, 2014

CAMP Rehoboth’s Volunteer on Vacation group traveled to the Food Bank of Delaware’s Milford location for an afternoon of service July 25. The team of 10 was joined by volunteers from Target and Chesapeake Energy.

After a briefing, the Food Bank of Delaware facility became a sea of colored T-shirts as volunteers got to work. Coolers critical to the distribution of meals to children’s summer programs were scrubbed. Giant cartons of food donated by people attending the Delaware State Fair were emptied and sorted. In the huge warehouse, cans were removed from shelves so the shelves could be wiped, and cans reorganized and placed back on the shelves. At the completion of the shift, the VOV team was tired but rewarded, knowing they had contributed to a great cause and had fun.

The Food Bank of Delaware provides nutritious foods to Delawareans in need, and facilitates long-term solutions to the problems of hunger and poverty through community education and advocacy. Volunteers are critical to the success of the food bank, and there are opportunities for both individuals and groups. Visit www.fbd.org for more information.

CAMP Rehoboth's Volunteer on Vacation program offers community service opportunities to area residents and vacationers. It unites individuals and groups in creating a better community and is a continuation of the work done by CAMP Rehoboth, a nonprofit community service organization dedicated to creating a more positive environment in Rehoboth Beach and its surrounding communities.
