August 8, 2014

The Sussex Tech Adult Division announces the 50th Commencement Exercise of its James H. Groves Adult High School. Adult students from all over Sussex County will celebrate their high school completion Wednesday, Aug. 13, at 7 p.m. in the Sussex Technical High School gymnasium. U. S. Sen. Chris Coons will give the Commencement Address. Everyone is invited join them for this special occasion.

Classes for adult students working to earn their high school diploma are held in Bridgeville, Seaford, Laurel, Selbyville, Lewes, Ellendale and Georgetown.

The James H. Groves Adult High School is a statewide school that holds adult students to the same rigorous graduation requirements as other schools in the state. Graduate John Ball-Kinsler of Georgetown states, “I have been coming to class two nights per week for about two-and-a-half years. Now, I recognize that it has all been worth it.”

Two graduates, Maria Sandoval and Jose Escalante, began in the school’s English as a Second Language program, progressed through the Adult Basic Education program, and into the James H. Groves Adult High School. They have now earned the 22 credits required to graduate. Both are excitedly anticipating marching across the stage in their cap and gown to receive their high school diploma Aug. 13.

“The James H. Groves Adult High School is thrilled to celebrate its 50th anniversary”, said Dr. Michael Owens, director of extended learning with Sussex Tech." We are especially pleased to have U.S. Senator Chris Coons join us for this special night."
