Ryan Mavity covered the Candidates Forum at CAMP Rehoboth July 25, and summarized all of the candidates’ opinions on the major topics. I believe one candidate stands out for his commitment to the city and professional background.
Francis “Bunky” Markert has been on the planning commission for the past four years, and now serves as its secretary, which means that he often is the one making the planning commission reports to the mayor and commissioners. He knows the issues we are facing right now, and from his answers at the forum, it’s clear that he knows them in depth and detail.
He is a CPA, and has served as chief of fiscal services for the Department of Environment for the State of Maryland, as well as finance director for major nonprofits; in other words, he also has a deep knowledge of government fiscal matters, a critical skill at this moment as we face financing challenges with ocean outfall and the municipal building.
If you are a voter, you probably have seen him on the street in his bright turquoise T-shirt knocking on doors, talking to voters about what matters to them. Here is a guy who can bring deep knowledge of our city, relevant professional skills, and a sincere commitment to listening and solving problems.
Please cast one of your two votes for commissioner for Francis “Bunky” Markert, who will make a great new addition to the Rehoboth Beach Commission.
