Betty June Grubb, Lewes Arby's retiree

Betty June Grubb, 87, of Lewes passed away Monday evening, Aug. 11, 2014. Mrs. Grubb was born Aug. 24, 1926, in Nowata, Okla.

She worked nearly 68 years of her life. She was employed by the Detra Flag Company in Oaks, Pa. Many know her as “Miss Betty” at the Arby’s on Coastal Highway in Lewes, where she retired in 2012 after working there for 21 years. Betty was an active member of the Redman and Degree of Pocahontas, Anona Council 11 and attended many of their activities. Betty was past president of the Elks Ladies Auxiliary.

Betty enjoyed going to the Harbour Lights Cheer Center in Lewes. She loved making friends, handing out candy and helping others. In addition to reading and people watching at the Rehoboth Boardwalk, one of her greatest pleasures was sitting on the porch with her friends, her dog Ally, and talking to the neighbors.

Betty is survived by her sons James Hontz, Patrick Hontz and Timothy Hontz; seven grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends, including Colleen and Matt Ponton. She is preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Rhoda Ewers; her son William Hontz; and by her husband Charles J. “Jim” Grubb, past exalted ruler and life member of Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge 2540, Lewes.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, Aug. 16, at 11 a.m., at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Road, Millsboro, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Burial service will be held at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery in Millsboro Monday, Aug. 18, at 10 a.m.
